Irish vote yes

The Irish have spoken and 67% have voted in favour of the Lisbon Treaty. Perhaps - as Nadine Dorries has suggested - there should be another referendum, to see what the result will be on a best out of three.

All of this goes to prove what a completely undemocratic institution the EU is. If you don't like the vote the first time, keep on asking and keep on badgering until you get the desired result. The yes vote in Ireland doesn't mean the treaty has any democratic legitimacy. It does not as the majority of those eligible to vote across Europe were not given the chance to express their democratic views. Instead autocrats like Gordon Brown decide they know better than the voters. Always a dangerous road to travel down, but one the left in particular are used to travelling.

If this treaty is ratified it will be a sad day for those of us who love democracy, not only in the UK, but across EU countries as a whole.

I think this is the last time the EU will ever ask permission.

They have had their finger burnt too badly this time.

What I find shocking is the way Labour supporters are so jubilant in having conned the electorate and sold their country out - just because they think it might win them a few votes.

I also find the timing of the German CDU/CSU announcements and the readiness of Rifkind and Clarke to suddenly pop up on media very disturbing.

The media will try to take advantage of how upset Tories get about their country being sold out - but I wonder why the Lib Dem and Labour voters aren't offended by having their country dismantled by deceit and stealth.

PS The left are all over the #cpc09 tag right now. I assume its a coordinated effort.

I am very surprised the way Ireland voted, but they are desperate because of the economy.

What a shame. Hopefully there will be a backlash at some point, and the EU will come tumbling down, but I suspect the powers won't give up easily.

I think this is slightly misleading, when the Irish vote yes it's undemocratic.. had they voted no would tories still say it was undemocratic!? unbelievable.. cake and eat it...me thinks!
